All you need is a little help from your friends...

Recording a new album is good fun.

Here's Rob singing and strumming.

Shell doing pizzicato on her double bass.

Paul concentrating hard on his trinkley bits.

But hey, we didn't do it all on our own!!

First of all we need a really great recording engineer. We have one of those - he's also a fabulous musician, which helps us out no end! You can hear his electric bass, harmonica, piano and cicada sounds (to name a few) all through our albums!
Here is Jeremy (+OneFatMan Productions) working hard, with Rob watching on.

When you listen to our albums, they all have special instruments and voices played and sung by our kind friends and relatives. Yay!

Jenny, our lovely singer.
Linda is Paul's sister and our other wonderful singer!

Gilbert, our marvellous Mandolin player.

Shell's mum Clare on her button acordian.

Uncle Simon singing some pasta opera.

Petey Boy on the Bagpipes.

Ben on the Cornet.

Old family friend Mr Richard blowing his Baritone.

Ross doing glissando on his Trombone!

Graham keeping the beat on his drum kit.

There are many other lovely people that have helped out at the recordings, we just didn't manage to get photos of them on the day!

Thanks to them all!

Here's a video of us recording our very first album.

 Happy Days!!

Roman Sandals

We all had to wear Roman Sandals at intermediate school.
Rob still wears sandals to the school he teaches at!

Here is Rob wearing his favourite footwear!

Rob was so inspired about Roman Sandals that he wrote a song about them.

Rob still wearing his sandals!

We really wanted to make a video about the sandals to show on Youtube and that's where the kind folk at 'Douglas Sandals' (New Zealand's own Roman Sandal factory in Balmoral, Auckland) agreed to help us out with the cost of making the video! Yay for them!

Jamming outside the Douglas Sandal factory.

Still roaming around!

We were also lucky to have friends with friends who could help out with the making of the video.  You will see lots of these lovely people who helped out in the music video, dressed up as school kids and Romans.

Enjoy!

Saturday 9 February 2013

Let's start at the very beginning ...

It all began one wintery evening - Paul and Shell were having a meal with Rob and his lovely family.  After dinner, Rob pulled out his trusty guitar and played a few of his tunes.  Paul and Shell were so impressed, that they encouraged Rob to record them.

Here is Rob - doing a bit of his guitar and singing stuff.

So, we got together in our spare time and in between fruit cake and cups of tea recorded 15 songs we thought kids might really enjoy.

There is our lovely Thermos!

In order to make the recording we splashed out on a microphone and we borrowed a computer in the Music Department (Education) at the University of Waikato. Hooray!

There's that computer.

Spot the new microphone.

The sound was far from professional but we thought it would give folk a good taste of our music.

This is the 'sh sh sh' at the start of L-I-B-R-A-R-Y

Paul doing his guitar thing.
Shell doing her double bass thing.
Discs got passed around from family to family, gifted to friends and sent to distant relatives. We thought the songs were fantastic and pretty funny too. What would others think? .......
Rob doing some moves.

It wasn't long before parents were telling us that the songs were being listened to and sung non-stop. They didn't seem to be complaining either, but said things like - "The whole family knows all the words." Mums and Dads were waking up in the morning to the sounds of Mr Roberelli in the living room.
Rob playing the ukulele ...
 ... and the guitar.
And now Paul on the tambourine.

One Dad was so impressed that he decided to help us do things properly.

Thanks to his support we're now out in the world and working on our fifth CD!

Here is a video from a couple of our awesome young nephews out in the world doing cool stuff to Mr Roberelli.

The Three of Us

 So here we are, the three Roberellis;

This is Rob
(he writes the music)

  Paul
 (he plays the guitar)
and Shell

(she plays the bass)

........amongst other things.
We have changed our look a bit....
 New T-shirts,
and less hair!

The boys are always playing their guitars...
wherever....
and whenever.
That is, when they aren't digging holes,

or climbing ladders!!

Happy Days!
